He’s a lone wolf—for now.

In Polecat, Alaska, Rachel Miller and Jake Hunter have a mutual admiration for each other—from across a lake. There’s nothing Rachel likes more than spying on the very fit wilderness guide when he skinny-dips each night. And Jake has always been curious about his reclusive artist neighbor. He even bought Rachel’s first wood carving: a wolf who looks suspiciously like him....

Jake is a werewolf, but not just any werewolf. He’s the founder of WARM (Werewolves Against Random Mating). And that means a human like Rachel is off-limits, no matter how attractive he finds her.

But when Rachel is threatened by a bear, and Jake shifts to save her, their lives collide with an intense passion, one that could change everything they’ve ever felt about themselves—and each other...."
What a fun, light and oh so sexy read. I have not been this entertained and kept on the edge of my seat for quite a while, but this book managed to do both for me.
I knew, because it is a romance novel that they would get their happily-ever-after. Yet the author used such excellent story telling that you could not be sure they really would get it right up until the very ending!

This is sort of a relationship driven story with a lot of conflict that these two thought they could not surmount; well let me rephrase that - JAKE thought he couldn't surmount their differences. After all Jake is the founder of WARM or Werewolves Against Random Mating. This means that he believes that werewolves should not mate with humans and that means no were/human nookie. Ever!

They meet in several different ways. First they meet in human form when Jake buys a carving that Rachel made, and then again in the woods when a mother bear protecting her cub, attacks Rachel and a lovely large wolf comes to Rachel's rescue! A wolf that bears a striking resemblance to the wolf carving that Rachel made, that Jake happened to buy. Rachel's first sale!

This is the point when the story gets truly interesting, and the heat level makes you think of taking a cool shower, or going for a nice swim in the frigid ocean!

You are going to feel like there is no way this is going to work and the author does an excellent job of leading us where she needs us to go. She (Ms Lewis) never TELLS the story, or bludgeons us with it; she merely gently guides us through the story and the relationship.

This book is set in Alaska, one of my personal favorite states to read about, but there really is not much description and could nearly be set anywhere. I look forward to reading more by this author.

I'd like to add that this book had some of the best erotic scenes I have read in a mainstream novel. Not a lot of scenes, but very steamy!
