Conventional,
This review is from: Renegade (Kindle Edition)
This is your typical fantasy novel. We have of course the good guys (Valeria Banning), the bad guys (the Ghouls and an insider) and the 'maybe' guy Griffin Dare, a mage who has been on the run from an accusation of murder for 6 years.Ms Northcott does what few authors dare to do and even less authors get away with, and that is to dump the reader directly into the authors world with no explanation of what to expect. These two meet when Griff defies common sense and saves Val at the expense of his own life. Ghouls abound everywhere at every moment and the reader can be left gasping at the pacing of this novel. It was difficult for me to see just how Griffin and Valeria were gong to have any sort of private relationship with so much action going on, but of course they did. As unbelievable as it was yes they did manage. The characters are interestingly drawn but I did not really 'beleive' the story itself. The romance felt too contrived, forced. The action was interesting and the sub- plot kept my attention and the secondary players seemed more interesting to me than the main players. It will keep you engaged but I don't think it will be making you feel like you just HAVE to keep reading. |
