Lover Forbidden by J.R. WardMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
4.5 STARS
Wow this sure was an intense novel. After 22 books, J. R. Ward can still surprise me and keep me on my toes. I never figured out exactly what was up with Dev (Lyrics *ahem* friend) until it was blatantly pointed out!
This is Lyric's time to shine and grow even more. There are unhappy times with a death, and then a secret revealed.
There is hot and heavy nookie, a HUGE surprise on Dev's part, many mysteries to solve, yet none of them really get resolved. I've pretty much come to expect that until the very last book of this series, nothing is really going to be resolved, not even the littlest of issues. But that is what keeps us coming back for more. After all, this really is a romance series! So it's more or less all about the relationships.
I don't recommend that anyone treat this as a standalone (you could very well do perfectly well reading this without the benefit of the rest of the series). I don't think I could have understood this book without being familiar with the other book, or at least the first couple of them. - I don't think you would get the full impact of this book or even really understand the relationships, abilities, and differences among everyone.

DESCRIPTION: "The aristocracy is making a run for the throne in this latest thrilling, star-crossed paranormal romance entry in J.R. Ward’s #1 New York Times bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood series.
When Lyric goes out for the night, she’s not ready for a brush with death—and she’s really not ready for the male who comes out of nowhere and saves her. Her family, especially her father, Qhuinn, are so relieved she’s okay, but all she can think about is her mysterious savior.
Without telling anybody, she seeks out Devlin, and they are immediately drawn to one another. Her near-death experience has given her a fresh appreciation for life and the desire to live it to its fullest, but she has no idea that he’s hiding a secret—or that he could be the key to ending the war between the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the lessers forever."
